LOS ANGELES (Reuters) – O ator norte-americano Will Smith afirmou, nesta sexta-feira, que está “profundamente arrependido” de ter dado um tapa em Chris Rock na cerimônia de premiação do Oscar neste ano, e que tentou chamar o comediante para conversar, mas foi rejeitado.
Smith publicou um vídeo no YouTube no qual respondeu perguntas sobre o ataque a Rock no palco na cerimônia em março, após o comediante fazer uma piada sobre a aparência da esposa do ator, Jada Pinkett Smith.
“Não há nenhuma parte de mim que acredite que aquela foi a maneira certa de me comportar naquele momento”, disse Smith no vídeo, no qual está sentado em uma cadeira em frente a uma estante de livros.
“Eu estou profundamente arrependido”, acrescentou Smith. “Estou tentando estar arrependido sem ter vergonha de mim mesmo. Eu sou humano, e eu cometi um erro”.
Smith disse que tentou entrar em contato com Rock e que “a mensagem que voltou é que ele não está pronto para conversar”.
“Chris, eu peço desculpas a você. Meu comportamento foi inaceitável. E estou aqui quando você estiver pronto para conversar”, acrescentou Smith.
Menos de uma hora depois do incidente, Smith fez um discurso em lágrimas no palco ao receber o prêmio de melhor ator por sua atuação em “King Richard: Criando Campeãs”, no papel do pai das superestrelas do tênis Serena e Venus Williams.
